Creating a standardised Market Information System to drive forward a developing fresh produce market in Hungary
Project Background:
The Agriculture sector in Hungary was fragmented with no central co-ordination of standards or statistics relating to the volume of production of the principal commodities.
The EEC commissioned a project to provide recommendations for the establishment of quality parameters based on EEC standards for fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as centralising the reporting and recording of product produced within the various regions of Hungary.
Project Challenge: The main object of the project was to create a market information system to accurately collate market information and implement standardised processes for the management of fresh produce production and sales in Hungary
Omnia Solution:
Omnia were instructed to handle this project and provide the following solutions:
Provide a full market assessment of the existing production and sales of agricultural produce and provide a full market analysis.
Evaluate how more exacting standards, particularly those of the EEC, could be introduced to improve the production and marketing of fresh produce.
Create a Market Information System to monitor and control a more standardised infrastructure for the production and distribution of fresh produce within Hungary.
Provide guidelines and recommendations for improved standards and future marketing strategies to support a sustainable fresh produce market within Hungary.
Project Outcome:
A new system was introduced which enabled Hungary to focus its marketing efforts on areas where product volume and local demand was high. Over time it also enabled Hungary to develop a significant export business as a result of the improved quality standards introduced.
