Consolidated and innovative packaging solutions that produced dramatic time and cost efficiencies for a leading grower in Thailand.

Project Background:

Working alongside a major grower of baby corn in Thailand, Omnia successfully demonstrated substantial efficiencies in time and cost within their supply chain. The grower exports two and half thousand tons of baby corn into the UK. They engaged an Omnia consultant to help them increase their cargo upload, reduce wastage and incorporate sustainable and environmentally considerate packing solutions.

Project Challenge:

To provide the grower with an innovative packing solution to reduce wastage and optimise their cargo uplift.

Omnia Solution:

Traditional packing methods impact the supply chain by incorporating unnecessary and costly phases in the process. Omnia created a packing solution that not only eliminated unnecessary steps it substantially enhanced the commercial outcome for the client.

Omnia minimised the use of non essential bulky packaging by replacing traditional polystyrene boxes and using light weight, reusable thermal liners.

This packing solution also provided constant temperature controlled environment which substantially reduced produce wastage and increased shelf life.

By removing the polystyrene packing the grower was able to increase their cargo uplift by 40%

Labelling was also done at source which meant the grower was able to export shelf ready produce which could be distributed directly from container to retail distribution centres

By using a reusable thermal liner the grower was able to reduce the recycling element that is associated with polystyrene packaging.

Project Outcome:

By eliminating the use of unnecessary and environmental unfriendly packaging the grower was able to realise a 40% increase in their cargo capacity. The consolidation of the process also increased efficiencies in the export and import processes that added value to their supply chain.
