Implementation and Coordination of Commercial Retail Strategies for Fresh Produce in the Ukraine

Project  Background :

The change of political orientation within the Ukraine signalled the need to review the way in which market forces operated in the retail sector and the project was established to provide an assessment of the current situation and guidelines for change. The project’s brief was to specifically focus on fresh fruits and vegetables.

Project Challenge:

Working as part of an Overseas Development Agency Project, Omnia was tasked to investigate the role of the Wholesale Market in Kiev and its impact on small-scale retailers, and to provide recommendations for improving the quality and range of product on offer.

Omnia’s Solution:

Omnia worked closely with all Government Officials, entrepreneurs, and retail managers to investigate the current situation and to provide guidelines for change by:

Devising a series of training seminars to provide retail management with the skills to establish their commercial strategies, competitive pricing models, and the ability to manage the day to day operations and challenges of running small retail units.

Creating a programme of work placements for the retail management teams. This allowed them to gain hands on experience within existing wholesale markets and retail units.

Developed and created winning retail strategies and produced a series of processes and manuals to support the growth of new retail units.

Project Outcome:

The project was handed over to local officials and aid agencies which provided retailers and entrepreneurs with the structure and funding required to develop many of the recommendations.

The outcome was the establishment of a flourishing retail sector served through direct imports and purchases from an upgraded Wholesale Market
