Omnia Management conduct new trials using insulated thermal liners as a highly effective means of maintaining consistent temperatures vital for a consignment of fresh produce cargo being exported from Kenya to the UK.

In August 2008 Omnia Management carried out trials on behalf of Polar Thermal Products to assess the effectiveness of their insulated thermal cover as a passive means of temperature control for fresh produce by air from Kenya to the UK.

The consignment was loaded onto a pallet and covered with the insulated cover and was transported on an Emirates flight which included a flight transfer in Dubai. The pallet was exposed to high ambient temperatures that prevail in August.

During the 24 hour transit cycle, and using temperature loggers that were evenly distributed throughout the cargo, Omnia carried out a series of temperature recordings at 30 minute intervals.

The temperatures recorded during the trial where 100% acceptable in accordance with required standards and showed no noticeable increases during the transfer in Dubai.

The trials have clearly demonstrated how the use of this thermal liner effectively controlled the temperature of the fresh produce. It also reduced the need for unnecessary, heavy or bulky packaging, dry ice, or gel packs. The thermal liners are reusable which also makes them highly effective in reducing waste.
